Former Home Improvement star Jonathan Taylor Thomas will headline a pilot for Fox called American Soap, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The show casts him as a freshman at an elite New England college, which is fitting given the fact that Thomas is a freshman at Harvard.
American Soap will depict life in a small college town as seen through the eyes of Thomas’ character. “It’s a world where everyone has a secret and where everyone watches other people,” said Jon Harmon Feldman, the show’s writer/executive producer. The pilot will be shot next month.
The cast also includes newcomer Nora Zehetner, who will play Thomas’ younger sister.
In addition to Home Improvement, which made him a teen heartthrob, Thomas also won rave reviews for his performance as a gay teenager in last year’s Showtime film Common Ground.
